Early Life
-Born to Nirmala, a psychologist and Stanley Andrews, a business man. Both are Malayali Nasrani immigrants from Kerala, India.
-Was brought up in Wandsworth, South London and had what he described to be a "very repressive" upbringing.
-At age 16, he fell in love with his math teacher, Geraldine Feakins, 7 years later, they had a son, Jaisal, born in 1992
Career
-Auditioned for drama school and was accepted at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Ewan McGregor and David Thewlis.
-His studying paid off when he won a role in London Kills Me(1991). In 1996, he played Kip in The English Patient and also Sayid Jarrah on the TV show Lost in 2004.

Personal Life
-Was in a relationship with Barbara Hershey; they lived together in L.A and separated in 2005; during that time, he had another son, Naveen Joshua with another woman, Elena Eustache.
-He has openly spoke about his alcoholism and 2 year addiction to heroin in the mid 1990s.
-Plays guitar and sings. Became a naturalized U.S. citizen on May 27, 2010.
